DIA and AECC will be selling a solidarity bag to help breast cancer research

October 18, 2016

The two entities thus further their collaboration in the fight against the most frequent tumour affecting women in the Western world

The shopping bag, bearing the motto “I am full of breast cancer support”, can be purchased at any of 1000 stores all over Spain.

To mark the International Breast Cancer Awareness Day to be held tomorrow, 19 October, DIA and the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC) have launched a solidarity project whereby customers throughout the DIA supermarket network can purchase a bag which is environmentally-friendly, reusable and bears an exclusive design, to help support cancer research.

AECC and DIA continue their alliance with this new project, whose profits will help to fund grants for the study of treatments against this disease at universities and hospitals. The shopping bags, bearing the motto “I am full of breast cancer support” are on sale at a price of 3 euros, while stocks last, in a selection of 1000 stores of the DIA Group in all Spanish provinces.

Some 26,000 cases are diagnosed in Spain each year, which accounts for almost 30% of all tumours in women in our country. Most cases are diagnosed between the ages of 35 and 80, peaking in the 45-65 age range. Early diagnosis and scientific research have enabled the overall survival rate 5 years after diagnosis of this tumour to reach 82.8% in Spain, above the average rate.
