The company increases its contributions by 70% compared with last year.
DIA Spain doubles the figure delivered last year with 2 million kg.
DIA once again this year beat a record in the delivery of food thanks to the ongoing cooperation agreement which it has with different food banks in the five countries in which it operates. This year the company has given total of 2.7 million kg (2,700 tonnes), 70% up on last year.
This year Spain has doubled the amounts delivered compared with last year, with a little over 2 million kg, which is the equivalent to 6,000 kg per day. Also noteworthy are the more than 527,000 kg provided by DIA stores in Portugal, which is an increase of 40% compared with 2013.
These quantities are supplemented by the actions implemented in Argentina, Brazil and China, which add up to more than 5000 kg delivered to the benefit of different local non-profit organisations.
The food delivery record has been possible thanks to the support of the company’s employees, DIA franchises, and the different partners with which the company regularly works, such as the Spanish Basketball Federation and its regular suppliers of products and logistics services.
DIA thus moves forward in its commitment to take advantage of surpluses with the aim of making the food reach as many people as possible. In this regard, the company also forms part of the “FoodWaste” project, an initiative promoted by the Spanish association of manufacturers and distributors (AECOC) to prevent food waste.
